Q: after doing a connection test, it keeps failing at IP adress. im using my laptop to connect my xbox.
A: ok buddie his is what you are going to do first of all make sure that you powercycle your console and your network devices (powercycle is just reseting the modem or router and unplugg everything off the xbox including the hard drive) *Then clear the cache just go to the dashboard then go to the system area and then go down to memory then press the y button on hard drive then you will be prompted to a screen that will say something like rename and format at that point all you have to do is press X, X, LB, RB, X, X. Then it will ask you to perform some sort of a maintainance and just select yes or continue. If the previous troubleshooting steps didnt help at all then try this: *Go to the system area of your dashboard and the go to network settings then scroll down to RESTORE TO FACTORY DEFAULTS and press A then it will ask you to test the xbox live connection and select yes or continue. *And last but not least if none of the above work then MAC the address from your computer all you have to do is go to START > RUN > type ncpa.cpl > then you have to right click on your LAN (local area connection) and go don to details > then to status > and there you will find the physical address and thats the one you need the physical address not the IP address but the physicall address. Once you have collected the Physicall address go to the system area of your dashboard and then go to system and then network settings and then edit setting and then you have two blades on the top go to advance settings and then down to alternate mac address and to alternate mac address once again and it will give you a keypad to type in your address once you type it in click done and it will ask you ti test your xbox live connection go ahead and do so and if for some wird reason it fails still after you have tried all this troubleshooting steps then you will have to contact your ISP and get an ip address from them . Good luck man
