The basics are, you need a broadband internet connection, a way to connect your xbox 360 to the internet via an ethernet cable. Then you go on your xbox and choose "Join xbox live" and you enter your details, such as name, address, credit or debit card number (this is so they can charge the money to your account once your subscription runs out, unless you cancel your account before then). You then choose a Gamertag, which is the name you will go by on xbox live, and if everything works, you will be able to play with people all over the world.
