High Definition problem with 360?

Q: I just got the 60GB 360 and when I used the cables that came with it I couldn't get HD picture. I connected the cables properly, and I have the switch on the cord set to HDTV. When I choose 720p it brings me to the place where it ask "to keep these settings" and the picture looks good, but when I choose that it brings me back to 480p. It also says that the cable isn't set to HDTV, but it is. I tried using HDMI and that worked, but I use that for my PS3 and it's a pain to switch them all the time (I have to go all the way behind the cabinet, and I shouldn't have to anyways, the cables should work in the first place). I also tried my PS2 component cables on my PS3 and they work so I know my TV is fine. Did anyone ever have this problem? Is there a way to fix it? TV cabinet is almost as tall as I am and surrounded by walls. Thus, the difficulty.

A: The best answer to this is to get yourself another HDMI cable (though I don't know why you'd need to go to the back of the cabinet when you could just pull the systems forward and switch the cable there), but to answer your question on 360 Component Cables... The cable itself is actually a very cheap cable. It's obviously outputting through the Component ports, but not registering with your system. You might want to try getting a new component cable, but even that might not be the real problem. It may be a faulty video port on the system as well. This problem could have many reasons, sadly, and without the ability to test each reason seperately, I wouldn't be able to tell you for sure. BUT, if you have a friend who has a system, ask him if you could connect your cable to his system to test the cable. If it only outputs at 480p on his system (and his cable outputs the normal 720p), then you have a faulty cable. If his system works fine, and his cable doesn't work on your system, then you have a faulty system. It's the only way to really test. Two systems. One TV. Throw down the gauntlet, ninja style. Good luck, my friend.
