Q: Do I NEED to get a hard drive for it? The only games I'm planning to play are GTA IV and Rockband. I'm not planning to play online.
A: you don't need it for those purposes unless you plan to buy a lot of extra tracks for rock band. Get a memory card and maybe you can get a hard drive if your plans change. the memory card will save your gamertag with achievements and game saves. You can fit quite a few game saves on it, more than enough for 2 or 3 games. Don't believe these people that say you need a HD to save games, they fit on memory cards.
