A: Depends on the size of the room. If you'll be sitting 4 feet away or closer, 19 to 24 inches would fine. Any 27 inch tv is good for a single private room. Bigger TV's are necessary only for dens or basements where lots of people will be watching from 10 to 15 feet away. There is another factor besides size, and that is aspect ratio. Being widescreen means that most movies and newer videos will look bigger on lcd, if everything else is equal. If you've got a dvd of a movie in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio, it will be significantly bigger on a 27 inch lcd than a 27 inch sdtv. Same goes for any newer video in 16:9 or wider. With standard 4:3 video, of course, the opposite is true, it's bigger on a sdtv because on widescreen it leaves black bars on the sides; but 4:3 video is not generally the quality stuff that you'll want to watch on your ps3. The ps3 itself, and all ps3 games, can handle both 16:9 and 4:3, so there's no issue with the games, except that some games have very fine detail that you can only see in high definition. For an sdtv that is twice the size of what sounds like it's a 22 inch lcd, it will display bigger video even for widescreen, but not better. I doubt you really need a 42 inch screen of either type. Picture quality is more important. There are major retail chains, including Staples, Office Depot and Office Max, also Fred Meyer, that often sell 24 inch lcd's for less than $200. That's a big enough screen for any private room, they're monitors though so they'd need separate audio. Also if you get lcd make sure it is HDCP compliant.
