3rd gen gaming and monitors?

Q: Hi everyone. I was looking at TVs for my bedroom so that I can finally get an Xbox 360 or a PS3. I currently have a tube TV, but I figured it would be a waste of money to get a 3rd generation console and play it on a tube TV. Now keep in mind, the ONLY reason why I wanted a new TV is so that I could play games on it. My TV is fine and I got it 2 or 3 years ago. So, here is what happened. Today, I found out that I could just get a computer monitor for gaming. So as long as I get a computer monitor that (I think it just has to have a 6 ms frame rate or less, be VGA capable, and HD) it should work, and I could save myself $600. The questions I have are this. 1.Do you need a computer hooked up to the monitor for your gaming system to work or no? 2.Will both an Xbox 360 and PS3 work with it, or will only one of them work? 3.Will the sound work if I have speakers? 4.Who makes the best monitors for around $300 or less? Gateway looked good, but what about HP and Dell? Thanks everyone!

A: Completely pointless buying a decent monitor for the xbox 360 it looks the same on any television . note :ANY
