Q: My son came home yesterday saying that he HAD to take his Nintendo DS to school because another student was threatening him. Basically, the other student traded him some Pokemon "years ago" and now the the other student wants them back. However, my son is no longer allowed to take his DS to school due to behavior problems on days he takes it to school - it makes him act up. Here is the threat the other student made if he doesn't bring his DS to school: the other student will "delete my files in Pokemon Diamond over Wi-Fi overnight". Neither one of us knows if this is possible since we do not have Wi-Fi but it sounds like an empty scare tactic to me. I can't imagine Nintendo users being ok with the ability to delete other's files long distance without permission and there would have been some uproar, right? But I have to ask for peace of mind - is this possible?
A: It's completely impossible to do anything like that to anyone's game over wi-fi. Well, maybe if he traded your son a really badly hacked Pokemon, but you'd have to have wi-fi and your son would have to agree to that trade. The only way for the bully to be able to delete the file would be if your son did bring the game to school and the bully got his hands on it.
