Q: Many people say Wii is just a modified PS2 in terms of graphics. Should I get a Wii? It's really affordable. Is it reliable?Does it break like the 360 or is it as tough as the PS3? Thanks. No man,I'm Wii for hot shots like Call of Duty 5,Need for Speed Undercover etc. Not Mario and stuff(I'm too old for that!)
A: The Wii and the PS3 fail at a rate of about 3% (3 out of every100 units sold will fail.) The 360 has a failure rate of about 16% (16 out of every hundred... or 4 out of every 25 will fail). In terms of graphics, the GPU is the least complex of the 3 major consoles on the market, but let me put things to you this way. The Wii's core is not terribly different with the GameCube's core. This means that programming tricks that GameCube developers used will still apply to the Wii - they don't need to throw everything they know away. On the other hand, the 360 and the PS3 are VERY different from their respective previous iterations. Very few concepts from Emotion Engine programming apply to the Cell. PS3 developers have to throw away a lot of what they learned about programming for the PS2, and learn a whole new subset of programming skills - it takes a lot of programming experience to keep a 7-core chip running at peak efficiency, and not very many people in the world have that kind of programming experience. And don't knock games before you tried them just because you think they're "kiddie." Super Mario Galaxy is a work of art, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a blast, Mario Kart Wii is HUGE fun, and I'm eager to try Mario Super Sluggers. And I'm 26.
